Nerd Night: Mon 6 May
We’re getting into a bit of a groove at the moment with the subject of 3D Printing…
Josh Clarke is going to be talking about his new machine and some of the triumphs and pitfalls he’s experiencing along the way. He’ll also be talking about the whole Rep-Rap project ethos.
Jim will be whisking us away for a roundup of what’s new and approved in the maker world.
Finally, Marcel will be unveiling the chassis of the beach-art-robot that we discussed last month. He’s going to be asking for your input too! You have been warned. ;)
Expect something to be mentioned about our ongoing 5 minute timer competition, but don’t expect there to be one. ;)
Feel free to bring along anything that you’re working on so we can all have a ‘butchers’ during the break-out and come prepared to ask and share during shout-out.
Doors open at 7:30. Entry is free. All ages welcome but <18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Upstairs at The Albion, next to the Town Church.

Not content to merely hear about 3D printing, this month we will BE 3D printing!
Jim has made amazing progress on his ‘Rostok‘ delta-type machine to the point that he’s now printing out upgraded parts for it and improving it’s performance at every iteration.
Marcel will be updating us on last week’s Guernsey Museum’s Science Festival.
Also expect Jim’s Roundup of the eclectic news from the Maker World and our Shout Out where you can share what you’ve been working on.
PLUS — if you’ve got an entry for our perpetual 5 Minute Timer competition, please bring it along!
Any more ideas for a group project that could use a couple of hundred AA or PP3 batteries would be good to hear.
Doors open at 7:30. Entry is free. All ages welcome but <18s must be accompanied by an adult.

This month we’ll be hearing from Jim about 3D printing. It’s all buzz these days for this desktop revolution but what’s really possible and available? We already know of a few 3D printers being built in Guernsey but it would be good to hear from anyone else who is working on such a project. Please bring along anything you have to show and share.
Marcel will be updating us about Guernsey Museum’s Science Festival and reporting on Guernsey Arts Commission’s activities in community arts.

We’re very pleased to announce that this month’s key speaker will be Pierre ‘Lenny’ Lenfestey on the subject of ‘Creativity in Making’. Last year, Lenny undertook a Make-a-Day project where he forced himself to make something every day. Part of that challenge was finding diverse projects that would stretch his ‘making muscles’. That taught him a thing or two about creativity and broadening your making horizons.
Marcel will be sharing some exciting news about Guernsey Museum’s Science Festival and Guernsey Arts Commission’s cunning plans for community arts. They’re both asking for input.

And we’re still looking for ideas for a group project that could use a couple of hundred AA or PP3 batteries. All suggestions welcome!

Mon 7 Jan: Review
An informal evening with great contributions from a number of people who had brought in some ‘Christmas Presents’.
Highlights included; motor drivers, a one-string-lap-steel-guitar-with-a-bean-can(!), an Arduino Display Shield, an Arduino Ethernet Shield, an Arduino online temperature logger …and… Chris’ Arduino based temperature monitor.
Huge thanks to Keith for his math troubleshooting skills. The big lesson here — “when the instructions say ‘TMP36′…” ! :D

Happy New Year to you!
We hope you’ve had a good Christmas. Maybe you made something? Maybe your New Year’s Resolution is to make something every day!? We’d LOVE to hear about it!
Things are going to be slightly different this month…
It’s “Bring Your Favourite Christmas Present” night.
Whether it’s a new pair of knitting needles or an electron microscope come along and tell us all about it. (*conditions apply)
