Nerd Night: Mon 3 Nov 2014

Calling all passionate creatives…

The clocks have rolled back and the winter is closing in — it’s a perfect time to get making!

Join us for another night of nerdy geekery.  Whether you’re a knitter or a welder, come and share what your into and feed off the enthusiastic endeavours of others.

This month, Philip West will be sharing his experience of the amazing Mythlore event held in September at Candleston, Wales.  If you imagine a mythological adventure film — along with all the characters, creatures, special effects and plot twists — you’re not even close to the experience of actually being there, in it!

Mythlore

Paul will be bringing his usual roundup of all things good and groovy in the maker world and we’ll have the usual Shout Out and Break Out times when you can share projects and request help.

Come, discover, discuss.

Everyone: welcome.  The more the merrier!

Under 18s:  accompanied

Entry: FREE

Dress-code: some

Venue: still at The Albion pub in St Peter Port.  Next to the Town church.

Kick off: still at 7:30pm

Nerd Night: Mon 6 Oct 2014

The days are drawing in and I swear the months are getting shorter!

We’ll be talking about the Internet of Things this month.  It seems to be a very hot topic just now as new technologies are emerging and vying for take-up in this new marketplace.  Whether it’s turning your lights and heating on and off whilst you’re out and about or telling your kettle how much water to boil, there are bluetooth, wifi, Zigbee solutions for everything.

Come, discover, discuss.

Paul will be bringing his roundup of all things good and groovy in the maker world and we’ll have the usual Shout Out and Break Out times when you can share projects and request help.

Everyone: welcome

Under 18s:  accompanied

Entry: FREE

Dress-code: some

Venue: The Albion pub in St Peter Port.  Next to the Town church.

Kick off: 7:30pm

LAST MONTH…

Nerd Night: Mon 1 Sep 2014

beerGet your brew on!  This month we’ve got Dan de Guerin talking about home brewing.  He’s been known to make his own equipment along the way so it’s a doubly ‘makey’ endeavour.

…and Paul Dodd will be bringing us a round up for all things neat and amazing in the maker world.

We’re open to anyone.  Free entry.  7:30 kick-off at the Albion pub in Town (next to the Town Church).

Bring a friend.  Bring anything you’ve made or been working on.  Most importantly of all… bring a 5 minute timer!

Nerd Night: Mon 3 Aug 2014

The Eleanor Foundation LOGOThis month we are delighted to welcome Allister Carey from The Eleanor Foundation.  Allister will be giving us some background on the foundation and his desire to build… <drumroll> …a pedal powered cinema!

Bring a friend.  Bring a 5 minute timer.  Bring a passion for making… anything!

We’ll be at the Albion, next to the Town Church, from 7:30pm.

Free entry.  All welcome.  Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

REVIEW: 5 May 2014

A wonderful evening with Geraldine and Clive Silk — full of lively discussion from ranging from threats to bees and methods of monitoring bee activity in the hive to alternative hive designs.  It will certainly be a subject we keep coming back to.

By way of update on the ‘Sega Rally’ games machine at Styx, apparently the motherboard has gone so it would seem that it’ll not be Imagesuch an easy fix.  Whoever wants to come visit the machine for some exploratory diagnosis work please drop Marcel a line.  Wednesday evenings are best as that is when their ‘Quiet Club’ meets — the members of which we want to involve.
